went to my bf’s uni classmates gathering (one of their classmates came to sg for holiday) for dinner and discovered that out of all eight of them…. NONE of them are working as industry designers… instead two of them have a graphic design company and another two are goin to start one… -_-” the aussie classmate is now in IT and another is trying to find a job in design… without much luck…

and we have bunches of graphic designers out there as well… sigh… where and how do u find a niche for yourself?

which made me think… i’m sure that there are many ID graduates (poly or uni) out there who are not working in design (and i mean product design) right now… singapore’s demand for ID isn’t that fantastic yet we have so many students coming out yearly lookin for jobs and ending up working as another sort of designer… many companies who do look for ID pple often require many many many years of experience that it discourages pple who want to step into the industry and get the experience (chicken and egg)… is it that singapore’s industry is too small to support? or is it that you gotta be really good at the start in order to get anywhere?

have to constantly tell yourself to keep improving and upgrading yourself… but self-doubts abound (how good m i… m that that fantastic? how can i be better? am i better at some other stuff than the things i’m workin on…) which one has to overcome constantly… at least for me for now… mind working out wat are stuff i like to do and how it can improve my skills and work as well…

i’m a designer too…
